The modern world is a strange place for Christians at times. Just look at the social standard of the two things you should never discuss with someone you don’t know. You know what they are! We all do because, that is how our modern politically correct world has molded us! The most taboo subjects on the planet are politics and religion. This has been burned into your brain by the world around us. This is true just as ‘talk about the weather’ is the first subject you will breach with a stranger. Now I am not saying this needs to change wholeheartedly, but discussing your faith should not be taboo. The Bible tells us that we should spread the word of Jesus Christ…even in the face of the modern world. For me this is hard to do.
I have a friend, who will be reading this any moment, who takes his family door to door to ask his neighbors if they would like his family to pray with them for anything or invite them to his church. And on the same note, there is a guy downtown that stands on a box and preaches adamantly to everyone who gets off the train. I wish I had their bravery. I am not comfortable doing either! Especially in my neighborhood where people know me and I have to live. I have been beaten by the modern world to be so afraid of offending someone that, in many cases, I don’t even know. I feel safe here, hiding behind firewalls, web pages, blogs, and the anonymity of the internet to say how I truly feel. But it is hard for me to stand in front of a crowd of strangers and evangelize. I respect them and think the world needs more of them…many more.
In this day and age of ‘postmodern thought’, where anything you believe is real for you…well it’s lies and people misleading themselves so they can do what every they want and feel OK about it. There is no other way to say it. If you are an old SNL fan, then it is ‘Nay Scottish’!(Look it up J) People simply cannot make up their own religion and have it be true for them. Look at the postmodern thought. If you believe something then it is true; well I believe in the Bible, the Holy Trinity, Jesus Christ dying on the cross, Heaven, Hell, Redemption, and the whole Christian ball of wax. An atheist believes that none of that exists. They both cannot be true just because two different people believe two different things! That very fact in itself blows postmodern thought out the window. It is not OK to make up your own religion and justify your sins by saying ‘The God I believe in doesn’t mind.’
Take a look around at the world today. Take a look! It is a scary place where weird evil things just pop up all over! Columbine for instance! Just heard on the news that someone drove over a two year old at a garage sale in the nearby city and then drove off! The news is full of the evil that one man does to another.
If we continue to shrink back from what we know is right, then the world will continue to spin out of control! Think of it like parents with children, in this modern crazy world if a parent disciplines their child in public they might be called for child abuse! Well no wonder kids no-a-days run wild! The parents get arrested for doing anything about it. The view of the world must change, and we, as God’s Kingdom, have to do it!
“If not now, then when? If not you, then who?”
