A reader asked if there were prophets in today’s church, if so what roles do they play in the church, and finally how can we tell if the person is a true prophet of God. Those are some pretty hefty questions and important ones; so let’s take a look at what we know.

Are there prophets today and what roles do/did they play in the church?

It is possible that God could grant anyone today the gift of prophecy; He is God and can do whatever He deems needed for mankind. With that being said, it is very unlikely that He does so though. Why? The gift of prophecy was the best way for God to tell us what to look for in the coming of Jesus Christ and the formation of the early church. By giving us the prophecies in the Old Testament, He laid out the guiding framework of what to look for in His son Jesus Christ. Without that knowledge, we would not have been able to recognize that Jesus was exactly who He claimed to be; the living son of God. (more…)

I had a reader email in and ask a few questions about baptism; what is it, what is the difference between sprinkle/pour and immersion baptisms, infant baptisms, and is any of it biblical?

Let me start at the beginning and cover what baptism is and what it is not. A Christian baptism is an act we perform to show our faith in Christ as our savior. The act itself is symbolizing us going into the grave, just as Jesus did, and then coming out of the water represents us coming to life is a Christian just as Jesus was resurrected on the third day. In the bible we read:

Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life

Romans 6:3-4

The Core of Ego

Open Review

In this chapter, Tolle wants to expand on his theories that the ego is holding us back from being truly great beings of truth and pureness. In that statement alone, I can agree. Holding on to resentment and grievances, as Tolle suggests, can corrupt your life and change it forever and not in a positive way! There is a lot of truth to this and even in Christianity, we are taught to forgive each other and to turn the other cheek. Tolle talks a lot about “the truth” in this chapter and how it is obscured and hidden by the rules and regulations that is placed on our lives. He is really pointing a cold finger towards any organized religion. I did find it funny that he talks about how each side of a battle claim to have the truth and that is the ego talking…yet he wrote a book about his version of the truth and why others are wrong in their thoughts. I found this a bit dagger to the heart on his case. (more…)

New Earth Book CoverWell, I finished my reading and my review a day early even though I struggled all week to get through chapter 2 of A New Earth. It was not because Tolle had tried to render the Christian faith useless again, but his views on the inner and outer being and the ego just struck me as…well…junk. Tolle’s views on the world have foundation, but he pushes them too far in trying to maintain his inner light theories. But I am getting ahead of myself. Hit the jump and check it out for yourself. Dr. Oz

While I was driving to work today, I pondered the subject of the day; what would I write about? Then all of the sudden on the radio I hear the voice of none other than Oprah Winfrey inviting me to watch her show today. The subject of the day is going to be one of her new age friends, Dr. Oz(Don’t even get me started on that name Mr. Wizard!!!), mass hypnotizing the audience and getting them to “transcend” into their past lives.           One thing that I enjoy doing in the back end of my blog is reviewing the stats page. It shows you all sorts of interesting information about your blog. Not only does it give you the number of visitors, but it also shows how people got to the site, any links to the site that others have put on their sites(Thank you very much by the way), what stories people are reading, and so forth. The one that interests me the most, however, is the category called “Search Engine Terms” this shows me a list of what people were searching for on Google, Yahoo, etc. to get to my site. I can then use this info to try to give those searching more information about the subjects they are searching for.

Two days ago, three people did a search that I just loved; they asked “What would Jesus say to Oprah?” I found that very interesting. What would Jesus say? I thought about this all weekend. I know several things I would like Him to say, but would He? I have come to the conclusion that it is not my place to speak for Him. But if their question was “What would you say to Oprah?” then I would have a few things to say. (more…)

I am not a huge Chuck Norris fan, seen a few of his movies and some of Texas Walker Ranger(since a buddy was in a couple of episodes) and the Chuck Norris internet jokes are so old I could cry, but I have to say he has my attention now. Way to go Chuck!

So we begin our look into Eckhart Tolle’s A New Earth. What I am going to do is take each chapter, read through it and try to be as open minded as I can; trying to get the purpose that Tolle is trying to communicate. Then I will go back through and list the things that are not Biblically sound. I hope this journey will be informative for both you and me. (more…)

Question: “What is the “church of Oprah”? Is Eckhart Tolle’s “New Earth” compatible with Christianity?”

Answer: Oprah Winfrey is arguably one of the most influential women in the world. With a daily viewership that has peaked at around 10 million, the Oprah Winfrey Show definitely has the potential to impact the lives of many people. The Oprah Winfrey Show definitely promotes much that is good. However, there is another side of Oprah that has only recently become an integral part of her show—and that is her rejection of biblical Christianity. Oprah has made statements on her show in the past that have given a small glimpse into her personal spiritual beliefs, speaking mostly about her belief that there are many ways, millions even, for a person to “get to what some call God.”

The modern world is a strange place for Christians at times. Just look at the social standard of the two things you should never discuss with someone you don’t know. You know what they are! We all do because, that is how our modern politically correct world has molded us! The most taboo subjects on the planet are politics and religion. This has been burned into your brain by the world around us. This is true just as ‘talk about the weather’ is the first subject you will breach with a stranger. Now I am not saying this needs to change wholeheartedly, but discussing your faith should not be taboo. The Bible tells us that we should spread the word of Jesus Christ…even in the face of the modern world. For me this is hard to do.
